Welcome to The Stillpoint Project ...dedicated to the exploration, mastery, and promotion of the healing arts Professional Training: Osteopathic Manual Therapy for Professionals for Registered Practitioners Only Muscle Energy Techniques from an Osteopathic Perspective April 7th - 9th, 2006 - Friday, Saturday, Sunday - 9:00 am to 5:00 pm The Stillpoint Centre for the Healing Arts, 4419 West 10th Ave., Vancouver, BC Aimed at practitioners who use mobilization and/or manipulation techniques, participants will learn how to readily incorporate course content into their practice, as well as how to enhance the effects of their existing techniques. Individual supervision is insured as the seminar is limited to a small number of participants. If you are interested and uncertain as to whether or not you qualify for the training, please check with our receptionist. Areas covered include: • an overall appreciation for the indications and contraindications for muscle energy technique • proper techniques for localizing muscle energy forces - this includes an understanding of the positioning needed in the creation of levers • the identification of restrictions to movement located in the spine, ribs and extremities • the development of enhanced palpation skills • an introduction to a variety of positions with which to treat the same conditions - ie sitting, lying down • the development of breathing techniques with which to enhance results • an overview of the importance of sequencing for therapeutic techniques • instruction in the osteopathic field of awareness training with which to enhance results Course Fees: Professionals $600 Students $450 The course is limited to 12 participants. Certification of attendance will be received upon request, at the completion of seminar. Certification of achievement will be received upon approval by seminar staff. Please note: this certification is necessary for participation in all advanced studies. Accreditation from Colleges of Physiotherapy & Massage Therapy is pending. If you can bring a portable massage or osteopathic table, please let us know when you register. Wear loose clothing with shorts, and halter tops for women. Snacks and beverages provided for breaks. Dr. Greg BlaneyPhysician and Holistic Health Consultant Trainer in Osteopathic Manual Therapy Dr. Blaney has been practicing osteopathic manual therapy since 1983. He received his training at the College of Osteopathy, Michigan State University, and completed their post graduate program in 1988. Recognized for his remarkable talent, skill and knowledge in this field, Dr. Blaney was asked to join the faculty of the Continuing Medical Education Program at Michigan State where he assisted in their teaching program from 1987 to 1990. He has taught throughout North America and Europe and is well known as a knowledgeable and engaging speaker. During his training, Dr. Blaney received instruction from many of the top practitioners and instructors in osteopathy from the United States and Europe. These include: • Dr. Paul Kimberly: a former Steunenberg Professor and Chairman of the Department of Osteopathic Theory and Methods, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Kimberly is also a compatriot of the founder of cranial sacral therapy, Dr. Sutherland. • Dr. John Mennel: a renowned orthopaedic surgeon and manual medicine practitioner who authored multiple texts on manipulative medicine. • Dr. Philip Greenman: Dean of the College of Osteopathy, Michigan State University, and author of 'Principles of Manual Medicine. • Dr. Ed Stiles: the leading authority on Functional Osteopathic Techniques. • Dr. Bob Ward: the originator of Myofascial Release Techniques. • Dr. Barb Briner: the leading practitioner and teacher of craniosacral therapy. • Dr. Fred Mitchell Jr.: an osteopath and the son of Dr. Fred Mitchell, who first analyzed sacral mechanics. Dr. Blaney has had extensive training in both classical acupuncture and trigger point injections, and is recognized as one of the top practitioners in the field of Trigger Point Therapy and Biopuncture. He holds a diploma in Herbal Medicine and is a certified practitioner of homotoxicology. Besides treating muscle skeletal disorders, he is viewed as an expert in Lyme, Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia. He is on the Medical Advisory Board of the Marshall Protocol, and is an active member and contributor to a variety of international groups presently researching Lyme, chronic bacterial infections and auto-immune disease.
